Without morals a republic cannot subsist any length of time; they therefore who are decrying the Christian religion, whose morality is so sublime and pure (and) which insures to the good eternal happiness, are undermining the solid foundation of morals, the best security for the duration of free governments

This is an interesting examination of the influential players leading up to the 1920 election.

The 5,000 Year Leap

I am actually re-reading this one. It is interesting that I find folks are willing to attack the author of this book, but they never attack the content. Give it a read for yourself.

Congress aids the 99% Protesters

In what can only be described as a bewildering and ridiculous, Congress unveils a new spending bill that includes counting pizza as a vegetable for school lunches.

How can Congress do this? School meals that are subsidized by the federal government must include a certain amount of vegetables by law.  The new spending bill contains language that claims, that if a slice contains two tablespoons of tomato paste, it counts as a vegetable. However, last June Congress passed a law with new higher nutrition standards from the USDA, for school lunches. But given the current economic situation, Republicans on the House Appropriations Committee said the changes would “prevent overly burdensome and costly regulations and …provide greater flexibility for local school districts to improve the nutritional quality of meals.”

The complete reversal of congress in this matter and with a topic that is so clear and easy a concept that a Third Grader can understand, demonstrates that our representatives are more concerned with bowing to the wishes of corporate lobbyists, then what is right for the nation. Providing proof to what many of the 99% Protesters believe.

This American wonders how much more this savings now, will cost us in federally subsidized healthcare bills in the future.  Please pass the ketchup…

The powers of the congress

The United States Congress

As the 112th Congress gets started this week, we should all keep in mind what the Constitution says they are authorized to do. Remember, the Constitution was designed to limit the government. If a power is NOT enumerated in the constitution for government, they are not supposed to have the authority to do it. That authority would fall to the individual states. So for your reference is Article I of the Constitution where all the legislative powers are spelled out. If you want to get right to the meat of what the congress can do, skip down to Sections 7,8,9 and 10.
